VIS-À-VIS

It comes easy to love someone rather than yourself,
Effortless to bury them in gifts and petty surprises,
Simple to concoct endearments or prickly remarks,
Only to make them feel held in esteem and admired.

Challenges unfold when that someone is yourself,
And you vis-à-vis your unobtrusive imperfections,
Belittling every move or manifestation of character,
When above all it is yourself you have to look after.
