A friend once told me we live in a world of sharks,
Where betrayal, malice, and lies stand tall.
A world not meant for the weaker species,
Because they would only end up gone.
At first I was a little startled:
Those words sounded fatalistic,
As if the world had already been sentenced,
Resenting whatever strives to be angelic.
But now I know that people are sharks indeed.
However, I do believe in pure souls and beauty:
One just has to know where to look for it,
And challenge at all costs the grotesquery.
